About Colonie Chabad

The Chai Jewish Center of Colonie was established to serve the growing Jewish community of the Town of Colonie and surrounding areas. Founded by Rabbi Mordechai and Chana Rubin, the center offers a welcoming space for Jewish families and individuals to connect, celebrate, and grow in their heritage.
A branch of the broader Capital Chabad network—which was originally founded by Rabbi Yisroel and Rochel Rubin under the direction of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—the Chai Jewish Center continues the mission of spreading warmth, education, and inspiration throughout the Capital Region.
The Center hosts a wide range of programs, including holiday celebrations, the Jewish Women’s Circle, adult education, senior visitation, and creative children’s activities. Every program is designed to foster a sense of community, belonging, and connection to Jewish life.
As Chana shares, “The Chai Jewish Center is a home where everyone is welcome—regardless of affiliation, background, or observance.” Rabbi Rubin adds, “We strive to create a warm, inviting environment where every Jew can explore and experience their heritage in a meaningful way.”
